The Sūtra Spoken by the Buddha on Amitābha says: 'Passing from here westward through a hundred thousand koṭis of Buddha-lands, there is a world named Ultimate Bliss.' One billion suns and moons, one billion Mount Merus, one billion great oceans, and one billion Iron Ring Mountains are called one Buddha-land. Ten thousand is wan; one hundred thousand is yi. A single Buddha-land is already vast; how much more so a koṭi of Buddha-lands? How much more so a hundred thousand koṭis? Thus Ultimate Bliss is extremely distant from here. Yet when ordinary beings bound to the earth recite the Buddha's name seeking birth, they arrive there in the snap of a finger, precisely because they are born into the Buddha-land contained in our own mind. The so-called 'single momentary thought-mind' is precisely the ordinary being's mind that recites the Buddha's name. A mind of a single kṣaṇa is extremely minute and inferior, hence it is termed 'a single momentary thought.' This means that the Buddha-land as distant as a hundred thousand koṭis resides within the ordinary being's single momentary thought-mind: the mind itself is the land, the land itself is the mind; therefore it is said, 'From the beginning there has been no difference between this and that.'
