Aspiring for rebirth, aspiring for rebirth! / When the kalpa draws near its end, the five turbidities flourish; / beings hold wrong views and find it very hard to believe. / He specifically pointed out and taught the road returning to the west, / yet undermined by others, one reverts to how it was before. / From vast kalpas onward, it has always been like this; / it is not in this life alone that one first began to awaken. / Precisely because one did not meet an excellent, powerful condition, / one's wandering in saṃsāra was difficult to cross. / Today, at this very time, having heard the essential Dharma, / taking the end of this life as the limit, the vow is firm. / Resolutely keeping the mind, begrudging not the body, / full of gratitude to the kindness of Śākyamuni and all the Buddhas. / Setting his intention, he expounded the joy of the West, / wishing to make all return together and enter through the correct gate. / The correct gate is none other than Amitābha's realm; / ultimate liberation cuts off the very root and source. / Come and go, in a strange land one must not linger; / following the Buddha, one returns home to one's native land, / and all practices and vows are naturally accomplished. / May the assembly each and all be born in the Pure Land, / holding incense and flowers in hand, ever making offerings.
