May we be reborn, may we be reborn! Let the assembly unite in mind to give rise to thirsty longing, diligently prostrating with joy to hear the sūtra. What the holy one values does not exceed life, yet not coveting the royal throne, he gave up a thousand heads. Seven-inch-long needles pierced his entire body, yet dedicating his mind for sentient beings, he felt no sorrow. He took the skin of his own body to write out sūtras and verses, universally wishing that all living beings enter the stream of Dharma. A thousand lamps burned fiercely while bodily blood flowed; the gods wept tears and scattered flowers all around. Moved with pity for the Bodhisattva's bodily and mental agony, with a faint smile he vowed to be free of anger. We respectfully pray that together we hear and together cut off evil; rare to encounter, difficult to meet, we vow to be devoted. In thought after thought, turning the mind toward birth in the Pure Land, when life ends, entering that gate of nirvāṇa. Let each devote the mind without divergent thoughts, holding fragrant flowers in hand, ever making offerings.
