"At that time the Buddha said to the Elder Śāriputra: 'From here, passing westward over a hundred thousand kotis of Buddha-lands, there is a world named Sukhāvatī. In that land there is a Buddha called Amitābha, who is teaching the Dharma even now. Śāriputra, for what reason is that land named Sukhāvatī? The sentient beings of that land have none of the manifold sufferings, but experience only manifold pleasures; therefore it is named Sukhāvatī.'"
