Aspiring to rebirth, aspiring to rebirth: / The Tathāgata's teaching was fundamentally never twofold; / It was simply due to sentient beings' capacities not being uniform. / With a single voice he expounded, and beings awakened according to conditions, / Leaving no residual fetters, realizing the emptiness of birth. / Now displaying supernormal powers, now expounding the Dharma, / Now subduing heterodoxies and extinguishing the traces of Māra. / Benefiting one's own single body, though freed from bondage, / The universal benefit of the compassionate mind is utterly lacking in efficacy. / Dispersing the body and extinguishing consciousness, realizing the remainderless [nirvāṇa], / When twenty thousand kalpas end, the mind arises once more. / When the mind arises and stirs, the body reappears, / And all Buddhas first instruct them to bring forth the Mahāyāna. / Let the assembly turn their hearts to be born in the Pure Land, / Holding fragrant flowers in hand, ever making offerings.
