此五十三佛名者，乃是過去久遠舊住娑婆世界，成熟眾生而般涅槃。若有善男子善女人及餘一切眾生，得聞是五十三佛名者，是人於百千萬億阿僧祇劫不墮惡道。若復有人能誦是五十三佛名者，除滅四重五逆，及謗方等經皆悉清淨。以是諸佛本誓願故，於念念中即得除滅如上諸罪。

The names of these fifty-three Buddhas are those who in the distant past formerly dwelt in the Sahā world, matured sentient beings, and entered parinirvāṇa. If there are good men, good women, or any other sentient beings who hear the names of these fifty-three Buddhas, they will not fall into the evil destinies for hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis of asaṃkhyeya kalpas. If there are people who can recite the names of these fifty-three Buddhas, their four grave offenses and five heinous sins (pañcānantarya), as well as slandering the Vaipulya sūtras, will all be eradicated and purified. Because of the original vows of these Buddhas, in thought after thought they will immediately eradicate such sins as mentioned above.
