Śākyamuni dwelt on Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa (Amitābha Buddha), / Appearing in the world to transform the Sahā realm (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Innumerable assemblies of bodhisattvas and śrāvakas (Amitābha Buddha) / Initially wished to hear the sūtra, their minds not yet at ease (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Prince Ajātaśatru in the royal city (Amitābha Buddha) / Seized and imprisoned [his parents] under penal doom (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Vaidehī wept with grief and took refuge in the Buddha (Amitābha Buddha), / Vowing forever not to hear the names of various sufferings (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
In her deep heart she took no delight in the Jambūdvīpa realm (Amitābha Buddha), / Truly because it abounds in ghosts and animals (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / She only prayed that the Compassionate Honoured One would point out and instruct her (Amitābha Buddha), / Vowing to go and practice in a pure land of another quarter (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Śākyamuni Tathāgata knew her thoughts (Amitābha Buddha), / Vanishing in an instant to appear at the royal palace (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / He then emitted a golden radiance between his eyebrows (Amitābha Buddha), / And Vaidehī, her hindrances exhausted, beheld his true countenance (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
"Although other pure realms are immeasurable (Amitābha Buddha), / I tell the Buddha that I wish only to be born in Sukhāvatī (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / I pray to see Amitābha and quickly receive prophecy (Amitābha Buddha), / In an instant being endowed with the six supernatural powers" (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
The World-Honoured One smiled faintly, bringing forth rejoicing (Amitābha Buddha), / Constantly releasing five divine rays of light from his mouth (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / That light then illuminated the crown of Bimbisāra's head (Amitābha Buddha); / Attaining realization in accordance with one's capacity, what hindrance is there? (Namo Amitābha Buddha)
The Buddha told Vaidehī, "Do you know? (Amitābha Buddha) / Amitābha is not far from here (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / You should only diligently cultivate the three blessed practices (Amitābha Buddha), / And at the end of life he will welcome you onto a golden bridge (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Also for the sake of future assemblies (Amitābha Buddha), / Ordinary beings of the five turbidities down to the most evil persons (Namo Amitābha Buddha): / If they only turn their minds toward birth in that realm (Amitābha Buddha), / They can cause pure karma to sever greed and anger" (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Thereupon Vaidehī had further doubts (Amitābha Buddha): / "The Tathāgata now explains, you should understand (Namo Amitābha Buddha), / But based on the multitude of ordinary beings, they truly have not attained it (Amitābha Buddha); / It is through receiving the great compassion of the buddhas" (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Having heard this expounded, she was filled with joy (Amitābha Buddha), / And again for the sake of people of the present age enduring the five sufferings, [asked] (Namo Amitābha Buddha): / "How should they behold the realm of Amitābha (Amitābha Buddha), / His exquisite body with marks, signs, and radiance?" (Namo Amitābha Buddha)
The World-Honoured One explained for her the initial contemplation of the sun (Amitābha Buddha), / Wishing to make them settle their thoughts toward the west (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / The wise must rely on this contemplation (Amitābha Buddha), / And sins of kalpas numerous as dust and sand will be extinguished (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
When sins are extinguished, body and mind are surely purified (Amitābha Buddha); / Next one should imagine water readily turning into ice (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / In an instant one then sees the lapis lazuli ground (Amitābha Buddha), / Marked off with cords of gold (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
The jeweled pond is crystal clear and a thousand fathoms deep (Amitābha Buddha), / Interspersed with moon-pearls and yellow gold (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Rains of flowers fall in profusion everywhere (Amitābha Buddha), / Capable of causing the path to generate the mind of true reality (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Jasper forests and jeweled trees stand in seven rows (Amitābha Buddha), / Everywhere hanging with jewels of diverse radiant colors (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Within the light are countless maṇi palaces (Amitābha Buddha), / Where heavenly youths scatter flowers and perfumes (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
In the city of Sukhāvatī are ponds of seven jewels (Amitābha Buddha), / Lotuses blossoming in colors and lights beyond conceive (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Between the flowers is nothing but maṇi water (Amitābha Buddha), / Only praising those who go and come from Sahā (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Jasper chambers and jeweled pavilions gleam with purple-gold light (Amitābha Buddha), / Resplendently blazing in continuous brilliance illuminating the ten directions (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / By the white jade ponds one hears the wondrous Dharma (Amitābha Buddha), / While within lotus rays and petals fragrance wafts abroad (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Amitābha has countless jeweled towers and pavilions (Amitābha Buddha), / Where bodhisattvas countless as Ganges sands wander on all four sides (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Each holds flowers to make offerings to the Buddha (Amitābha Buddha); / Worldly toils forever severed, what further sorrow could there be? (Namo Amitābha Buddha)
In the jasper towers lotus seats unfold (Amitābha Buddha), / With petals of yellow gold and daises of jewels (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Above maṇi banners hang nets of true pearls (Amitābha Buddha), / Adorned with utter devotion for the Tathāgata (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
The jeweled image shines like lapis lazuli within and without (Amitābha Buddha), / Endowed with six supernatural powers at will, one feels the body light (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / In the mind one must attentively and diligently contemplate (Amitābha Buddha); / When the contemplation is accomplished, one immediately realizes the unarisen (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Amitābha's light and color are vast and boundless (Amitābha Buddha), / Universally illuminating all living beings to deliver those with affinity (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / If only with devoted heart one can be mindful of the Buddha (Amitābha Buddha), / In the future one will definitely transcend humans and devas (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Avalokiteśvara, successor to the stage, is inconceivable (Amitābha Buddha), / Manifesting rarely in boundless worlds (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / If he only causes those who are mindful to all attain joy (Amitābha Buddha), / When they bear Amitābha upon their heads with veneration (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Mahāsthāmaprāpta Bodhisattva is exceedingly hard to fathom (Amitābha Buddha), / Mighty, valiant, and vast without limit (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / The jeweled vase upon his crown shines brightly (Amitābha Buddha), / Allowing the dark paths forever to escape impermanence (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Contemplating one's own body, one sees the moment of rebirth (Amitābha Buddha), / Upon the jeweled lotus seat without any delay (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Water, birds, and tree groves all expound the Dharma (Amitābha Buddha), / And Amitābha welcomes and gathers one in, without any further doubt (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
The Tathāgata's divine transformations are inconceivable (Amitābha Buddha), / Large or small, answering capacities according with conditions (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Let the multitude with devoted hearts diligently practice buddha-mindfulness (Amitābha Buddha), / And within the flowers of the jeweled pond realize the unconditioned (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Practices and deeds must be sincere and rise ever higher (Amitābha Buddha); / Persons of the highest grade possess exalted lineage (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Entering the Ground of Joy among the hundred dharma gates (Amitābha Buddha), / Their wondrous diamond samādhi is naturally firm and steadfast (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Those who practice buddha-mindfulness must be utterly sincere (Amitābha Buddha), / And Amitābha will definitely come in person to welcome them (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / Arriving there, the lotus opens and they receive prophecy (Amitābha Buddha), / Instantly hearing the Dharma and awakening to the unarisen (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Even the most foolish persons of the ten evils and five heinous deeds (Amitābha Buddha), / Sunk through eternal kalpas in ancient dust (Namo Amitābha Buddha), / With a single thought reciting the name of Amitābha (Amitābha Buddha), / Upon arriving there are also identical to the dharma-nature body (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
Having spoken, the World-Honoured One returned to Mount Gṛdhrakūṭa (Amitābha Buddha); / Ānanda, having heard the teaching, widely proclaimed it (Namo Amitābha Buddha); / The great assembly with devoted hearts all upheld it upon their crowns (Amitābha Buddha), / Bringing this Dharma back to benefit devas and humans (Namo Amitābha Buddha).
