竊以黃蘗山高，便敢當頭捋虎；滹陀岸遠，亦能順水操舟。既露惡毒爪牙，仍顯慈悲手段，欄腮一掌，免煩著齒粘唇，劈肋三拳，可謂傾心吐膽。三玄在手，七事隨身，觸之則石裂崖崩、擬之則雷轟電掣。門庭孤峻，閫奧宏深，只可望崖，不可趣向。

I venture that though Mount Huangbo was high, he dared directly to stroke the tiger's whiskers; though the bank of the Hutuo was distant, he could steer a boat along with the current. Having revealed his poisonous claws and fangs, he still displayed compassionate means: a slap across the cheek saved the trouble of catching on teeth and sticking to lips; three blows to the ribs truly poured out heart and guts. With the three mysteries in hand and the seven items about his person, if touched he shattered rocks and collapsed cliffs; if deliberated he struck like crashing thunder and flashing lightning. His house style was solitary and steep, its inner chambers vast and profound; one could only gaze at the precipice, not approach it.
