1.24

師禮京兆興平和尚。平曰：「莫禮老朽。」師曰：「禮非老朽者。」平曰：「它且不受禮。」師曰：「它亦不曾禮。」師却問：「如何是古佛心？」平曰：「即汝心是。」師曰：「雖然如此，猶是某甲疑處。」平曰：「若恁麼，即問取木人去。」師曰：「某甲有一句子，不借諸聖口。」平曰：「汝試道看？」師曰：「不是某甲。」

The Master paid homage to Upādhyāya Xingping of the Capital district. Ping said, "Do not pay homage to this old decayed fellow." The Master said, "I am paying homage to what is not an old decayed fellow." Ping said, "That one does not accept homage." The Master said, "That one has also never paid homage." The Master then asked, "What is the mind of the ancient Buddhas?" Ping said, "It is your very mind." The Master said, "Even though it is so, it is still a place of doubt for me." Ping said, "If that is so, then go ask a wooden man." The Master said, "I have a single sentence that does not borrow the mouths of the sages." Ping said, "Try to speak it and let us see." The Master said, "It is not I."
