1.63

垂語曰：「直道本來無一物，猶未消得他鉢袋子。」僧便問：「時時勤拂拭，為甚麼不得他衣鉢？未審，甚麼人合得？」師曰：「不入門者。」云：「只如不入門者還得也無？」師曰：「雖然如此，不得不與他。」

Offering words of guidance, he said: "Even if you say 'originally not a single thing exists', you still do not deserve his bowl bag." A monk then asked: "'Diligently wipe it from time to time'—why did he not obtain his robe and bowl? I do not know, what kind of person ought to obtain them?" The Master said: "One who does not enter through the gate." [The monk] said: "Just as for one who does not enter through the gate, does he still obtain them or not?" The Master said: "Even though it is so, one cannot but give them to him."
