師示眾曰：「我有三路接人，鳥道玄路展手。」僧問：「師尋常教學人行鳥道，未審如何是鳥道？」師曰：「不逢一人。」云：「如何行？」師曰：「直須足下無私去。」云：「秖如行鳥道，莫便是本來面目否？」

The Master instructed the assembly, saying, "I have three paths to receive people: the bird's path, the dark path, and the open hand." A monk asked, "The Master constantly teaches students to travel the bird's path; I wonder, what is the bird's path?" The Master said, "Not meeting a single person." The monk said, "How does one walk it?" The Master said, "Underfoot there must simply be no self-interest." The monk said, "Just as one walks the bird's path, is that not the original face?"
