When about to depart, the Master further asked Yunyan: 'After the Upādhyāya's hundred years, if someone suddenly asks: "Can one still depict the master's true likeness?" how should I respond?' Yunyan said: 'Simply tell him: Just this is it.' The Master was silent for a long while. Yunyan said: 'Ācārya Jie! Taking charge of this matter requires great care and precision.' Later, when crossing the water and seeing his reflection, he was thoroughly awakened to the former meaning, whereupon he composed a gāthā: 'Avoid by all means seeking from another, / which is distant and estranged from me. / I now go alone, / and everywhere I meet him. / He now is truly me, / I now am not him. / One must understand in this way / to finally accord with suchness.'
