雪峯上問訊，師云：「入門來須有語，不得道早箇入了也。」雪峯云：「某甲無口。」師云：「無口且從，還我眼來。」雪峯無語。（雲居膺別前語云：「待某甲有口即道。」長慶稜別云：「恁麼則某甲謹退。」）

Xuefeng came up to pay his respects. The Master said, "Having entered the gate, you must have something to say; you cannot say you have already entered." Xuefeng said, "I have no mouth." The Master said, "Setting aside having no mouth, return my eyes!" Xuefeng was speechless. (Yunju Ying gave an alternative response to the former words: "Wait until I have a mouth, then I will speak." Changqing Leng gave an alternative response: "In that case, I respectfully withdraw.")
