1.43

師謂雲居云：「昔南泉問講《彌勒下生經》僧云：『彌勒甚麼時下生？』僧云：『現在天宮，當來下生。』南泉云：『天上無彌勒，地下無彌勒。』」雲居隨舉而問云：「只如天上無彌勒，地下無彌勒。未審，誰與安名？」師被問：「直得禪床震動。」乃云：「膺闍黎！吾在雲巖，曾問老人，直得火爐震動；今日被子一問，直得通身汗流。」

The Master said to Yunju, "Formerly, Nanquan asked a monk lecturing on the Maitreya Descent Sūtra, 'When will Maitreya descend to be born?' The monk said, 'Presently he is in the heavenly palace; in the future he will descend to be born.' Nanquan said, 'In heaven there is no Maitreya, and on earth there is no Maitreya.'" Yunju then brought this up and asked, "Just as in heaven there is no Maitreya and on earth there is no Maitreya, I wonder: who gave him a name?" When asked this, the Master's meditation seat trembled. He then said, "Ācārya Ying! When I was at Yunyan, I once questioned the old man so that the brazier trembled; today, questioned by you, sweat pours over my entire body."
