師問德山侍者：「從何方來？」云：「德山來。」師云：「來作甚麼？」云：「孝順和尚。」師云：「世間甚麼物最孝順？」侍者無對。

The Master asked Deshan's attendant, "Where have you come from?" The attendant said, "I have come from Deshan." The Master said, "What have you come to do?" The attendant said, "To be filial to the upādhyāya." The Master said, "What in the world is most filial?" The attendant had no response.
