1.84

有菴主不安，凡見僧便云：「相救，相救！」多下語不契。師乃去訪之，菴主亦云：「相救！」師云：「甚麼相救？」菴主云：「莫是藥山之孫、雲巖嫡子麼？」師云：「不敢。」菴主合掌云：「大家相送。」便遷化。僧問：「亡僧遷化向甚麼處去？」師云：「火後一莖茆。」

A hermitage master was indisposed; whenever he saw a monk, he would say, "Save me! Save me!" Many offered words, but none hit the mark. The Master then went to visit him, and the hermitage master also said, "Save me!" The Master said, "What rescue?" The hermitage master said, "Could you be the grandson of Yaoshan and true son of Yunyan?" The Master said, "I would not dare." The hermitage master joined his palms and said, "Let us all see each other off," and thereupon passed away. A monk asked, "Where has the deceased monk gone upon passing away?" The Master said, "A stalk of cogon grass after the fire."
