The Master said: "There are two kinds before Dīpaṃkara: first, not yet knowing the existence of It, which is like milk akin to blood; second, knowing the existence of It, which is like obtaining the original thing before the intention sprouts—these are named 'before Dīpaṃkara'. One kind is knowing the existence of It: coming and going in speech, sounds, sights, right, and wrong, neither belonging to correct illumination and functioning nor receiving vyākaraṇa, akin to milk that is blood; this is a matter on the side of leaking and losing, and is named 'after Dīpaṃkara'. Only when the matters of the three periods of time are exhausted, feelings of inside and outside are forgotten, and one attains being without interruption, is it only then named 'exactly during Dīpaṃkara'; then it is called 'receiving vyākaraṇa'."
