A monk asked, "What is the blade-less sword?" The Master said, "It is not produced by forging and tempering." The monk said, "What of the one who uses it?" The Master said, "All who encounter it perish." The monk said, "What of those who do not encounter it?" The Master said, "Their heads must also fall." The monk said, "That all who encounter it perish is indeed so; why do the heads of those who do not encounter it also fall?" The Master said, "Have you not heard it said: It can exhaust all things." The monk said, "What happens after all is exhausted?" The Master said, "Only then does one know the existence of this sword."
