1.81

師，於天復辛酉夏夜，問知事曰：「今日是幾何日月？」對云：「六月十五。」師曰：「曹山平生行脚到處，秖管九十日為一夏。明日辰時，吾行脚去。」及時焚香，宴坐而化。閱世六十二，臘三十七，葬全身於山之西阿，諡元證禪師，塔曰福圓。（終）

On a summer night in the xinyou year of Tianfu, the Master asked the administrator: 'What date is today?' [The administrator] answered: 'The fifteenth day of the sixth month.' The Master said: 'In Caoshan's lifelong journeying everywhere, he only treated ninety days as one summer retreat. Tomorrow at the hour of the dragon, I shall go on a journey.' When the time came, he burned incense, sat peacefully, and passed away. He lived sixty-two years and had thirty-seven years of monastic age. His whole body was buried at the western ridge of the mountain. He was posthumously named Chan Master Yuanzheng, and his stūpa was named Fuyuan. (End)
