A monk asked the Master, "An ancient said, 'I have a great sickness that the world cannot cure.' What sickness is this?" The Master said, "A sickness that cannot be assembled together." The monk said, "Do all sentient beings also have this sickness?" The Master said, "Everyone has it." The monk said, "Does the Master also have this sickness?" The Master said, "I am just now unable to find where it arises." The monk said, "Why are all sentient beings not sick?" The Master said, "If all sentient beings were sick, they would not be sentient beings." The monk said, "Do the Buddhas also have this sickness?" The Master said, "They have it." The monk said, "Since they have it, why are they not sick?" The Master said, "Because they are wide awake."
