1.40

A monk asked, "What is the bladeless sword?" The Master said, "It is not formed by quenching and forging." The monk said, "What about the one who uses it?" The Master said, "All who encounter it perish." The monk said, "What about those who do not encounter it?" The Master said, "Their heads must also fall." The monk said, "That all who encounter it perish is indeed so; why do the heads of those who do not encounter it fall?" The Master said, "Have you not heard it said: It can exhaust everything?" The monk said, "After everything is exhausted, how is it?" The Master said, "Only then does one know there is this sword."
