上堂，大眾集定，云：「有理不伸，死而不弔；有理能伸，罕遇奇人。置將一問來。」代云：「過。」

Ascending the hall, when the assembly had settled, he said, "Having a principle and not stating it, one dies without condolence; having a principle and being able to state it, one rarely meets an extraordinary person. Pose a question!" Answering on their behalf, he said, "Pass."
