因看誌公頌，問僧：「半夜子心住無生即生死，古人意作麼生？」代云：「不可總作野狐精見解也。」

While reading Master Zhi's eulogy, he asked a monk, "'At midnight, when the mind abides in the unborn, that very thing is birth-and-death'—what was the ancient's intention?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "One must not make it entirely into the understanding of a wild fox spirit."
