示眾云：「作麼生是不露鋒骨句？」代云：「今時人須是明明向道始得。」師乃有頌：「不露鋒骨句，未語先分付，進步口喃喃，知君大罔措。」

Instructing the assembly, he said, "What is a phrase that does not expose its edge or bone?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "People of today must face the Way clearly before they will get it." The Master then composed a verse: / "A phrase that does not expose its edge or bone, / Is delivered beforehand, before speech is uttered. / Advancing your steps with mouth mumbling, / I know you are in utter bewilderment."
