師或拈起拄杖云：「莫道老和尚瞞爾，貴之與賤縱橫十字，一時這裏會得了，莫辜負老僧。」代云：「百鳥為子屈。」又云：「抑與之與。」

The Master would sometimes hold up his staff and say, "Do not say this old upādhyāya is deceiving you: noble and base, crisscrossing horizontally and vertically—if you can understand it right here in an instant, do not let this old monk down." Answering on their behalf, he said, "A hundred birds submit for the sake of their young." He also said, "Suppression or giving—either way."
