示眾云：「西天二十八祖、唐土六祖、天下老和尚，總出頭來，過在什麼處？」又云：「爾在此間三冬兩夏，忽然出外，有人問雲門老和尚道什麼，爾向他道什麼？」代云：「驀面唾這野狐精。」代前語云：「他不是顛。」

Instructing the assembly, he said, "If the twenty-eight patriarchs of the Western Heavens, the six patriarchs of the Tang land, and the old upādhyāyas throughout the world all step forward, where does their fault lie?" He also said, "You have spent three winters and two summers here; if you suddenly go outside and someone asks, 'What did the old upādhyāya of Yunmen say?', what will you say to him?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "Spit right in the face of this wild fox spirit!" Providing a substitute word for his earlier statement, he said, "He is not crazy."
