師行次，以拄杖打露柱一下云：「什麼處來？」自云：「西天來。」復云：「來這裏作什麼？」自云：「說佛法。」乃喝云：「欺我唐土人。」又以拄杖打一下便行，却拈問僧：「汝道我意作麼生？」僧便問：「秖如師意作麼生？」代云：「不用行主。」又云：「師子咬人。」復問僧：「秖如當機，合下得什麼語？」代云：「發。」又云：「百歲老兒作歌舞。」

While walking, the Master struck the open pillar once with his staff and said, "Where do you come from?" He answered himself, "From India." He said again, "What have you come here to do?" He answered himself, "To explain the Buddha-Dharma." Thereupon he shouted, "You deceive us people of the Tang land!" He struck it once more with his staff and walked on. Then he brought it up and asked a monk, "Tell me, what was my intention?" The monk asked, "Just what was the Master's intention?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "No need for a guild master." He also said, "A lion bites people." He asked the monk again, "Right at the crucial moment, what words should be given?" Answering on their behalf, he said, "Release!" He also said, "A hundred-year-old man sings and dances."
