2.69

舉：「僧問雪峯：『如何是觸目菩提？』峯云：『好箇露柱。』有處云：『還見露柱麼？』」師拈起拄杖云：「有底體上會事，見露柱秖喚作露柱；有處道：不見有露柱。見解偏枯。見露柱但喚作露柱，見拄杖但喚作拄杖，有什麼過？」

He brought up: "A monk asked Xuefeng: 'What is the bodhi that strikes the eye?' Xuefeng said: 'A fine pillar.' Elsewhere it is said: 'Do you still see the pillar?'" The Master held up his staff and said, "There are those who understand things on the substance: seeing a pillar, they only call it a pillar. Elsewhere it is said: 'I do not see that there is a pillar.' Their view is one-sided and dry. Seeing a pillar, just call it a pillar; seeing a staff, just call it a staff—what fault is there?"
