師問僧：「儞從向北來，還曾遊臺麼？」僧云：「是。」師云：「關西湖南還曾見長嘴鳥說禪麼？」僧云：「不見。」師拈起拄杖，以口作吹勢引聲云：「禪禪。」

The Master asked a monk, "You have come from the north; did you ever travel to Mount Wutai?" The monk said, "Yes." The Master said, "In Guanxi and Hunan, have you ever seen a long-beaked bird talking Chan?" The monk said, "No." The Master held up his staff, made a blowing shape with his mouth, and drew out the sound: "Chan! Chan!"
