When the Master was a śrāmaṇera, one day He'an Tong called the Master to bring the bench. When the Master brought it, He'an said, "Take it back to where it was and set it down." The Master obeyed. He'an called, "Huiji!" The Master responded. He'an said, "What thing is on that side of the bench?" The Master said, "A pillow." He'an said, "What thing is on this side of the pillow?" The Master said, "No thing." He'an called again, "Huiji!" The Master responded. He'an said, "What is it?"
