官人問僧：「名甚麼？」云：「無揀。」官人云：「忽然將一椀沙與上座，又作麼生？」云：「謝官人供養。」師別云：「此猶是揀底。昔高麗國來錢塘刻觀音聖像，及舁上船，竟不能動，因請入明州開元寺供養。後有設問：『無剎不現身，聖像為甚不去高麗國？』」長慶稜云：「現身雖普，覩相生偏。」師別云：「識得觀音來。」

An official asked a monk, "What is your name?" He said, "Wujian (No-Choice)." The official said, "If suddenly someone brought a bowl of sand to the sthavira, what then?" He said, "Thank you, sir, for the offering." The Master gave an alternative reply: "This is still making a choice. Formerly, people from the kingdom of Goryeo came to Qiantang to carve a sacred image of Avalokiteśvara. When they carried it onto the boat, it could not be moved at all, so they invited it into Kaiyuan Monastery in Mingzhou to make offerings to it. Later, someone posed a question: 'There is no land in which he does not manifest his body; why did the sacred image not go to the kingdom of Goryeo?'" Changqing Huileng said, "Though the manifestation of the body is universal, when viewing forms, bias arises." The Master gave an alternative reply: "They recognised that Avalokiteśvara had arrived."
