師云：「諸方老宿，事不獲已東語西話，爾等將謂合恁麼地，廣陳詞說，各競聚頭，不眠不睡，道我參尋。爾擬向那裏參？古人云：『向外作功夫，總是癡頑漢。』快須信取。不用久立，珍重。」

The Master said: "The venerable elders in all directions had no other choice but to talk east and speak west. You all assume it must be done like this, extensively laying out explanations, competing to gather your heads together, without sleep or rest, saying, 'I am investigating.' Where do you intend to investigate? An ancient said, 'Applying effort toward the outside is entirely the work of a foolish dolt.' You must quickly have faith in this. There is no need to stand for long. Take care."
