甘贄行者，往南泉設粥云：「請和尚念誦。」泉自打槌云：「請大眾為猩奴白牯念摩訶般若波羅蜜。」贄禮拜便出去。泉後問典座：「行者在麼？」云：「去也。」泉遂打破粥鍋。

Practitioner Ganzhi went to Nanquan to offer congee, saying: "Please, Venerable, recite the verses." Nanquan personally struck the mallet and said: "Please, Great Assembly, recite the Mahāprajñāpāramitā for the gibbon-slave and the white bullock." Ganzhi bowed and walked right out. Later, Nanquan asked the head cook: "Is the practitioner still here?" The head cook said: "He has left." Nanquan thereupon smashed the congee pot.
