報恩令侍者取西橋水灌東面蓮盆，侍者灌了，恩云：「灌何處者？」云：「東面蓮盆。」恩却問傍僧：「是真實？是虛妄？」

Bao'en had an attendant fetch water from the west bridge to water the lotus basin on the east side. When the attendant had watered it, Bao'en said: "Where did you water?" The attendant said: "The lotus basin on the east side." Bao'en then asked a monk nearby: "Is this real or false?"
