僧問趙州：「牛頭未見四祖時如何？」州云：「飽柴飽水。」云：「見後如何？」云：「飽柴飽水。」

A monk asked Zhaozhou, "How was it before Niutou met the Fourth Patriarch?"
Zhaozhou said, "Plenty of firewood, plenty of water."
He asked, "How was it after he met him?"
He said, "Plenty of firewood, plenty of water."
