法眼問修山主：「毫釐有差，天地懸隔，兄作麼生會？」修云：「毫釐有差，天地懸隔。」眼云：「恁麼會又爭得。」修云：「和尚意作麼生？」眼云：「毫釐有差，天地懸隔。」修便禮拜。

Fayan asked Mountain Master Xiu, "'An error by a hair's breadth makes heaven and earth hang far apart'—how do you understand this, elder brother?"
Xiu said, "'An error by a hair's breadth makes heaven and earth hang far apart.'"
Fayan said, "How can it do to understand it like that?"
Xiu said, "What is the Venerable's meaning?"
Fayan said, "'An error by a hair's breadth makes heaven and earth hang far apart.'"
Xiu then bowed.
