祕魔嚴和尚，凡見僧來，提起杈云：「什麼魔魅教爾出家？什麼魔魅教爾行脚？道得也杈下死，道不得也杈下死，速道速道。」

Venerable Mimoyan, whenever he saw a monk coming, would raise a pitchfork and say: "What demonic phantom made you leave the household? What demonic phantom made you go on pilgrimage? If you can speak, you die under the pitchfork; if you cannot speak, you also die under the pitchfork. Speak quickly! Speak quickly!"
