"When the dragon soars across the blue sea, fish and turtles conceal their traces; when the tiger roars on the high crag, packs of foxes hide their tracks. When the elephant king stomps, the jeweled shores all collapse; when the lion yawns, fierce beasts conceal themselves. Maudgalyāyana and Śāriputra exercised wisdom and supernatural powers; the golden ascetic blinked his eyes at the Master of the Śākyas—śrāvakas could not fathom it; how could those of the tenth stage know? As soon as Subhūti began to proclaim it, the heavens already rained down flowers. How much less can complicated words speak of it! Open up a single line of humaneness and speak it with a full mouth! Is there any?" Replacing [the original words], he said, "Yes."
