「草堂參海昌禪師，師問：『什麼處來？』云：『道場來。』師云：『這裏是什麼所在？』云：『賊不打貧兒家。』」代云：「和聲打。」

"Caotang went to see Chan Master Haichang. The Master asked, 'Where have you come from?' He said, 'I have come from a place of practice (bodhimaṇḍa).' The Master said, 'What place is this here?' He said, 'A thief does not rob a poor person's house.'" Replacing [the original words], he said, "Striking him right along with his voice."
