香嚴初開堂，溈山令僧送書并拄杖，嚴接得便哭，僧問：「和尚哭什麼？」嚴云：「不是哭，只為春行秋令。」
When Xiangyan first opened his hall, Guishan sent a monk with a letter and a staff. Xiangyan received them and wept. The monk asked, "Why are you crying, Venerable?" Xiangyan said, "I am not crying; it is just that spring is carrying out autumn's command."
