西國有聲明三藏至閩，王請玄沙驗看。玄沙背處以銅筯敲鐵火爐，問：「是什麼聲？」藏云：「銅鐵聲。」師云：「大王莫受外國人謾。」

A Tripiṭaka Master of Grammar from the Western Lands arrived in Min, and the king invited Xuansha to test and examine him. Xuansha, behind him, struck an iron brazier with bronze chopsticks and asked, "What sound is this?" The Tripiṭaka Master said, "The sound of bronze and iron." The Master [Xuansha] said, "Great King, do not be deceived by foreigners."
