With great compassion rescuing beings, his blessings equal the sands of the river; / manifesting form in the human world, he transformed into a white snake; / with fangs and claws sharp-tipped as keen swords, / fierce and wrathful in spirit, he acts as Shensha. / His high nose stands like hills and ranges; / his large ears turn like layered mountains and cliffs; / his dark, swarthy eyes hang like golden mirrors; / his bristling eyebrows stand like iron pitchforks. / He has snail-like sinews and clam-like knots; / furrowed and wrinkled, his body bursts with vigor; / his feet tread the surging waves, overturning the ocean billows; / his hands push aside heaven's gate, revealing the sun and moon. / Manifesting awesome spiritual power, appearing as if in wrath, / seen from afar, he strikes people with terror; / dried skulls strung into a necklace encircle his neck; / fierce tigers and poisonous snakes are draped over his body; / a lion shirt and an elephant-king pair of trousers, / with a poisonous dragon bound around his waist as an apron; / not only do humans who see him tremble in alarm, / but all evil demons are stricken with dread. / Truly a great sage, truly of compassionate strength, / manifesting forms in the human world that people do not recognize; / all because through kalpas in the dust they indulge their stubborn foolishness, / not believing in the guidelines laid down by great compassion. / Sometimes shocking heaven, sometimes shaking earth, / his roars and cries resound across the earth, / awakening the sleeping eyes of living beings, / striking the foolish and deluded to bring them close to the Buddha's wisdom. / I now know he possesses skillful means, / benefiting beings by observing their faculties through thousands and myriads of transformations; / now capturing, now releasing, now supporting, / solely wishing that they swiftly transcend the shore of birth and death. / Driving thunder and wind, flashing lightning, / his swift thunderbolt-like functioning is like a flying arrow; / rumbling and crashing, shaking with heavenly majesty, / crackling and blazing, one must be forged; / mounds, ravines, peaks, and cliffs are leveled all at once; / swords, halberds, spears, and blades are completely destroyed. / Transforming humans and devas, subduing spirits and ghosts, / the hard, stubborn, unyielding, and strong all look up in reverence; / emitting dazzling light, he calms heaven and earth; / exhaling surging breath, he clarifies the ocean waters. / I now praise your true spiritual penetration; / throughout past kalpas, the Tathāgatas personally gave you prophesy. / The verse says: / “His awesome spiritual power is unfathomable, transforming humans and devas; / manifesting form across the three thousand worlds, filling the great thousand. / A single thought embraces countless kalpas; / Buddhas numerous as river sands proclaim it with their own mouths.”
