師一日携拄杖行次，俗人問：「手裏是什麼？」師云：「大不知時。」云：「弟子罪過。」師云：「不打爾。」因茲有歌。

One day, while the Master was walking carrying his staff, a layman asked, “What is that in your hand?” / The Master said, “You are greatly ignorant of the season.” / The layman said, “This disciple is at fault.” / The Master said, “I will not strike you.” / Because of this, there was a song.
