夫律師者，宗分有部，細行威儀，弘範毘尼，嚴淨三界，究七聚五篇之奧，窮四夷二過之微，持犯開遮真常軌，則白三翻之羯磨，唱四忍之護持，若非宣律之能，爭得同成師範者也。

As for the Vinaya master: the lineage is divided according to the Sarvāstivāda, with detailed conduct and deportment, broadly exemplifying the vinaya and strictly purifying the three realms. He investigates the depths of the seven categories and five divisions [of offenses], and exhausts the subtleties of the four pārājikas and two offenses. Keeping, violating, opening, and restricting are the true, constant norms; the three proclamations and one karma act, and the proclamation of the four forbearances are maintained. Were it not for the capability of expounding the Vinaya, how could one equally become a teacher and model?
