斷肱求法人，今古應難比，立雪至齊腰，屈身禮到地。願開甘露門，廣度群生類，不是小因緣，必成於大事。

The man who severed his arm to seek the Dharma— / throughout past and present, surely hard to match. / Standing in the snow until it reached his waist, / bending his body in prostration to the ground. / Vowing to open the gate of sweet dew / and widely liberate the varieties of beings, / this was no minor circumstance; / it was bound to accomplish the great matter.
