During an informal assembly, he cited the sayings on the three mysteries and said: "Do you still understand the timing of the three mysteries? You must directly understand the intent of the ancients, and only then will your own mind become clear. Then you will attain freedom in adapting to changes, enjoying limitless function. This is called the Buddha of the Self-Enjoyment Body. Not relying on teachings from others, you will immediately recognize your own family livelihood. Therefore Nanquan said: 'Old Teacher Wang learned to make his livelihood at eighteen.'"
