When the townspeople presented a bell, they requested him to ascend the hall. The Master said: "In the past, when Vipaśyin Buddha appeared in the world, there was a faithful layman who cast a gold bell weighing ten thousand catties. There was another faithful layman who was physically strong; he entered the mountains to gather sandalwood for a striker. Because they obtained this merit, the one who cast the bell has now become a Buddha in the eastern direction, named the Tathāgata Golden Light Accumulation. Next, the one who gave the striker was the twenty-fourth patriarch in India, the Venerable Siṃha; his younger brother, who also left home, was the monk Longzi. In wisdom and eloquence, none surpassed him. For ninety-one kalpas, he was constantly born among humans and heavens, enjoying superior blessings and happiness. Today the townspeople donate a bell; it will surely produce good benefit. If you wish to know the fruit of realization, understand it right now! Is there anyone who wishes to ask about this matter?"
