The Master said: "Venerable elders! Who is that person at the bottom of the sea? Has he come out yet? I shall call him out for you. Do you wish to recognize the sea? It is simply all sentient beings, from beginningless kalpas right up to now: delusive thoughts and inversions, greed, anger, arrogance, wrong views, and jealousy—being unable to be clear anywhere is called the 'sea of desire.' Do not search for it toward the four continents. Quickly comprehend it and cease your wandering and galloping, avoiding being confused and troubled by the various dusts. Therefore an ancient said: 'The entire sea of karmic obstacles all arises from delusive thought.' Reverend Wuye said: 'Have no delusive thoughts.' Can you really trust in this fully? If you lack confidence in yourselves, you will promptly find it hard to escape birth and death. If right now you have direct faith in it, what problem could there be? You have been standing long; take care."
