I have a plain folding screen, / beautifully displaying traces of past and present; / its upright form is entirely gleaming white, / quite suited to be called a Chan temple treasure. / Without ornamentation, requiring no effort, / it can ward off the southern winds that blow when the kalpa is destroyed; / smoke, dust, clouds, and fog leave no trace upon it; / the myriad phenomena all appear within it. / The foolish do not recognize it; the wise penetrate it first; / accumulating snow as reality, it is unlike ordinary snow. / Dīpaṃkara once gave prophecy to the Capable and Benevolent One; / Śākyamuni through this transformed the blind and ignorant. / Square and upright in substance, serene and complete in appearance, / it abides solely among humans and devas, yet heaven cannot fathom it; / for scholars, commoners, dukes, and marquises, it is an exquisite sight. / The poor, lowly, foolish, and deluded are separated by a wall; / deaf to it, yet it is truly worthy of veneration and difficult to encounter; / through hundreds of thousands of myriads of kalpas, they lose its appearance; / now, though they do not recognize it, it remains ingenious; / how could anything compare to holding and enjoying the plain folding screen? / Possessing strength, leaving no trace, / it does not employ the slightest effort of a skilled artisan; / the cornelian moon long shines forth with the brightness of white jade silk, / illuminating heaven and earth, functioning without contrivance.
