示眾，舉：「大珠和尚道：『身口意清淨，是名佛出世；身口意不淨，是名佛滅度。』也好箇消息，古人一期方便，與爾諸人討箇入路。既得箇入路，又須得箇出路。登山須到頂，入海須到底，登山不到頂，不知宇宙之寬廣；入海不到底，不知滄溟之淺深。既知寬廣，又知淺深，一踏踏翻四大海，一摑摑倒須彌山，撒手到家人不識，雀噪鵶鳴柏樹間。」

Addressing the assembly, he brought up: “Master Dazhu said: ‘When body, speech, and mind are pure, this is called the Buddha appearing in the world; when body, speech, and mind are impure, this is called the Buddha entering extinction.’ What fine news this is! A temporary expedient of the ancients to seek an entryway for all of you. Having obtained an entryway, you must also obtain an exit. In climbing a mountain one must reach the summit; in entering the ocean one must reach the bottom. Climbing a mountain without reaching the summit, one does not know the vastness of the universe; entering the ocean without reaching the bottom, one does not know the depth of the azure abyss. Having known both vastness and depth, with a single step one kicks over the four great oceans, and with a single blow knocks down Mount Sumeru. Letting go one's hands and arriving home, nobody recognizes you— / Sparrows chatter and crows cry among the cypress trees.”
